The trick to making microwave popcorn healthier is to skip the store-bought popcorn bags. While they are convenient, store-bought popcorn bags are also full of unhealthy chemicals. The lining of some microwave popcorn bags contain perfluorooctanoic acid (PFOA), which has been labeled by the EPA Science Advisory Board as a likely carcinogenic, meaning it may cause cancer in humans.
Luckily, we have a way for you to enjoy microwave popcorn without the health risks! All you need is popcorn kernels and a brown paper bag that you would use for school lunches. It’s that easy!
1. Measure ¼ cup of popcorn kernels into the paper bag
2. Fold the top of the bag loosely
3. Microwave for around 3 minutes or until you hear a pause of 3 seconds between pops
4. Remove the bag from the microwave and enjoy your popcorn!
